Anything Goes at The Folly, Worden Park, Leyland for South Lancashire Cake Club

Our latest cake club outing was to The Folly Coffee House situated in the heart of Leyland's beloved Worden Park,  housed in the old stable block this quirky coffee shop welcomed us with open arms.

Our theme for our event was "Anything Goes" so we had a fabulous selection of cakes and bakes some of which wouldn't normally be allowed at a Clandestine Cake Club.

We enjoyed chatting about baking, the history of the park and the weather. So if you are visiting the park pop in for a warming coffee or a bite to eat at The Folly.

The interior is quirky and reflects the history of the venue.

Outside is the Arts Centre (sadly unused now due to budget cuts) and the remains of Worden Hall, ancestral home of the Faringtons.

As stated previously as our theme was Anything Goes, traybakes were allowed , so we had some lovely Gluten Free, date sweetened brownie bites and some delicious Carmelita's.

Scrummy Cherry Madeira cake, traditional Dutch celebration cake , Coffee cake and Tunisian Orange Cake.

Good Intentions cake, Rum Truffle and savoury goats cheese cake

The Folly is open everyday and more details can be found here

Market Fresh - Cakes from a Country Kitchen at Bees Country Kitchen, Chorley.

On gorgeous sunny summer day in England, scrub that, who am I kidding on a humid dank overcast and thundery summers day intrepid members of South Lancashire Clandestine Cake club made their way through floods (yes really it was right up to the wheels on the car) and thunderstorms to have a beautiful summer themed cake club at Bees Country Kitchen, Chorley Market.

Our theme was Market Fresh - Cakes for a country kitchen to tie in with the fact that our host are on Chorley Market and are proud to use produce sourced from the market in their delicious range of fresh, seasonal and healthy country style street food. Their range includes, stews, curry's and casseroles, rich in fresh vegetables and a fab range of cakes, check out their facebook or instagram feed for more. Sarah one of members runs Bees with her husband and daughter so we had the perfect hosts for our gathering. Lashings of hot drinks where consumed from the cute enamel mugs and we munched cake off lovely vintage crockery.

We had a fab range of cakes

Eton Mess Cake

Semi naked Cake

Zucchini cake

Peach and raspberry cake

Apricot and butternut squash cake

Banana, raspberry charlotte russe

Blueberry, raspberry and lime drizzle cake

We didn't let the horrid weather spoil things and had a great time under the awnings sharing cake and sheltering from the rain, we attracted quite a lot of  attention from shoppers in the market who were admiring our gorgeous range of cakes.

Many thanks to Bees Country Kitchen for being such lovely hosts.

"A Right Royal Do ! " at The Royal Oak Riley Green - South Lancashire Clandestine Cake Club

For the 23rd Meeting of South Lancashire we were kindly invited by the team at The Royal Oak at Riley Green to hold an event in their lovely country pub, hence our theme of "A right royal do !"

Our small intimate gathering was hosted in a cosy area of this pub famed for its quality beer and food, we were also lucky enough to even have cake baked for our meeting by the award winning Executive Chef - Chris Rawlinson.

                             The Royal Oak

Our lovely members enjoyed a fine selection of cakes all with a suitably Royal theme, all treats fit for the Queen.

Marbled Royale Cheesecake by yours truly

Queen of Sheba Cake by Katherine

Classic Queen Victoria Sponge by Carla

Queen Mother Cake by Jane

Chocolat au Royale made by Chef Chris
We were warmly welcomed by all the staff and enjoyed chatting with staff and club members about all things cakey including  memorable bakes from previous meetings and ideas for forthcoming meetings. The Royal Oak is great for a drink with friends or for an enjoyable meal, the cake made by chef Chris was amazing !

Thanks to all the staff at the Royal Oak for being great hosts and also to our lovely members and their guests for great selection of cakes and cake stories.

We have previously reviewed the Royal Oak and its food when it first opened here

CCC No 18 - Back to School Sweetie Favourites - South Lancashire CCC - Tootsies, Botany Bay, Chorley

Not to be confused with an Australian penal colony, South Lancashire Clandestine Cake Club paid a visit to Botany Bay near Chorley. Our August meeting was kindly hosted by Tootsies an amazing ice cream parlour in this retail mill, who serve some amazing looking ice cream sundaes and desserts, we had planned to hold the event in the garden area but as the weather had turned chilly we decided to re-locate inside to the cosy ice cream parlour instead.

The Cake selection

We were also fortunate to be joined by Lynn Hill for our event, the founder of the Clandestine Cake Club movement. Lynn was having a very cakey day by visiting Bolton cake club earlier in the afternoon but joining us for our meeting.

Lynn Hill (Founder of CCC) and myself

Our theme was a celebration of Back to School recollections and your favourite sweetie treats from the tuck shop. Members old and new arrived with some fabulous interpretations of the theme and we were pleased to welcome back chief cake taster Theon as well !

Wonderful cakes !

  • Liquorice Allsorts Cake
  • Dolly mixture cake
  • Parma Violet Cake
  • Rhubarb and custard cake

  • Courgette and nut cake
Tootsies were great hosts catering to all our needs and the ice creams and the amazing array of cakes attracted lots of attention from the general public too.

We also had two members who got mixed up on the date but still baked some great cakes, a pick and mix cake and five centre bar cake.
