Anything Goes at The Folly, Worden Park, Leyland for South Lancashire Cake Club

Our latest cake club outing was to The Folly Coffee House situated in the heart of Leyland's beloved Worden Park,  housed in the old stable block this quirky coffee shop welcomed us with open arms.

Our theme for our event was "Anything Goes" so we had a fabulous selection of cakes and bakes some of which wouldn't normally be allowed at a Clandestine Cake Club.

We enjoyed chatting about baking, the history of the park and the weather. So if you are visiting the park pop in for a warming coffee or a bite to eat at The Folly.

The interior is quirky and reflects the history of the venue.

Outside is the Arts Centre (sadly unused now due to budget cuts) and the remains of Worden Hall, ancestral home of the Faringtons.

 As stated previously as our theme was Anything Goes, traybakes were allowed , so we had some lovely Gluten Free, date sweetened brownie bites and some delicious Carmelita's.

Scrummy Cherry Madeira cake, traditional Dutch celebration cake , Coffee cake and Tunisian Orange Cake.

Back to your roots ! Clandestine Cake Club at The Clog and Billycock, Pleasington

Our latest meeting of South Lancashire Clandestine Cake Club had the theme "Back to your roots" - root vegetable cakes or cakes from  your past.

We were lucky to have our event hosted by The Clog and Billycock (the only pub in the country with this name) and we were made so welcome at this pub famous for its food and drink. The pub is situated in rolling Lancashire countryside just outside Blackburn and is part of the Ribble Valley Inn's Group.

A billycock by the way is a type of bowler hat, very popular in Victorian times. The pub is cosy and the welcome warm.

We had a fabulous time and the staff were amazing looking after our every need, munching our way through some truly wonderful cakes from our lovely members it was a great way to spend an
afternoon.

Thanks again to everyone at the Clog and Billycock, I have eaten at The Clog on numerous occasions and the food and welcome has always been great, part of the Ribble Valley Inns chain, the focus is very much on local seasonal ingredients and great hospitality.

Coffee Shop Classics at BB1 for Life for South Lancashire Clandestine Cake Club

Last weekend South Lancashire Clandestine Cake club visited BB1 for Life a newly opened community coffee shop and community space in Blackburn city centre. The centre is on facebook and twitter and is hoping morph into a community hub for all in the city.

We were lucky that the Coffee shop is run by no-one other than Kate - Cake club organiser for Ribble Valley so our every need was catered for, the coffee was fabulous. So if you are in Blackburn pop in for a warm calming welcome, they are just adjacent to King Georges Hall.

Decorated in a relaxed folksy vibe the venue is instantly calming , with scaffold shelving you just instantly relax.

Our theme was to help inspire Kate as to what cakes should feature on her menu, as usual we had a fabulous selection of cakey delights. We all delighted in sharing cake and chats on a relaxed Saturday afternoon visit. We enjoyed the following

Winter Warmers at The Cowshed, Buckshaw Village for South Lancashire Clandestine Cake Club

 

Yeah, cake club for our 25th meeting (wow that's a lot of cake !) of the South Lancashire Clandestine Cake club we paid a visit to COWSHED on Buckshaw Village, we had a supper turnout of bakers having 13 cakes in total all to our seasonal Winter Warmers theme.

Quite a few of the bakes featured interesting spice combinations and the bakers excelled themselves with their fantastic decorations. Travelling from far and wide we enjoyed ourselves on a wintry blustery afternoon in this funky coffee shop in the heart of the newly created village.

You can find the Cowshed on Barnes Wallis Way (of Bouncing Bomb fame) just behind the Tesco, there is parking just outside the door and lots more in the area. The coffee shop is open 7 days a week and late on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The coffee is amazing and the decor is great and suitably cow themed.

On to the cakes, what a wonderful selection including several which where gluten free and two amazing "Bonfire cakes".

Also not photographed individually was a Ginger and Coconut cake (sorry Helen R) this is the large white cake with the Christmas Trees in the large picture and also my Ginger Zinger Cake which you can see here.
